If you live in PAL territory, you may
encounter these issues :
° You record TV shows on one PC but want to
watch them on a second (a laptop eg.)
° You want to burn a DVD with your recorded shows and pass it on to a friend.
In both cases you will find it impossible to get the Teletext subtitles to show
up.
Although they are part of the DVR-MS file, only from within the
Mediacenter program Teletext works.
Also, when you convert a TV show to DVD, the subtitles are not converted to DVD
subtitles, but are simply discarded.
The same goes for when you convert the DVR-MS files to WMV or any other format.
Why did I include the notion 'PAL territory', you may ask ?
Well, Teletext is almost exclusively used in this part of the world (actually,
the majority of viewers use PAL).
In the US, and other countries which use NTSC, a different system is used,
called closed captions.
And for this system, Stephen Toub developed
a way to extract the closed captions from a DVR-MS file.
This will not work with PAL Teletext though, as the two systems are totally
different.
So what is this utility about ?
The utility will allow you to do the same thing as the closed caption decoder
program did for CC, but this time for Teletext subtitles : extract them and save
them into an SRT file
